Unite Rutgers: Another Great CGI New Jersey Half Marathon

It’s time for runners to get excited about the upcoming CGI races in the Northeastern U.S.  One of the celebrated races is Unite Rutgers, a half marathon scheduled for the 12th of April, 2015. An 8K race will begin 15 minutes earlier on the same day.  Both races are being highly promoted in an effort to gain the most participation for the event.

The race takes place on Rutgers’ beautiful campus located in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Start times for the half marathon, 13.1 miles is 8 A.M. and 8:15 A.M. for the 8K. Individual runners, teams of runners and volunteers are being recruited.  The current registration prices are going on now through December 31, 2014.  This race is usually a sell out, so register early to guarantee your spot in the race of your choice.

The Registration site is the Sonny Werblin Recreation Center in Piscataway, NJ but you are able to register online, as well. The half marathon registration fee is $87 for individuals and $59 for students. The 8K registration is $56 for everyone.  Registration is available if open spots remain until the day of the race.

Join A Team For More Fun

If you don’t like solo participation, join a team.  Running teams, triathlon teams, charity groups and corporate teams will be vying for an opportunity to place.  A financial award is given to the first place team of $750, second place wins $500 and third place wins $25. Run with your current team or join one of the participating teams listed on the Unite Rutgers website.  If you’re really industrious, start your own team.  Teams of 20 or more members qualify for great perks.  A finish line tent measuring 10 feet x 10 feet and a starting line porta-a-potty are just some of the benefits your team of 20 or more will receive.

Volunteer For A Good Cause

Anyone who simply wants to encourage the runners is urged to volunteer.  Volunteers help register participants; assist in the set-up; man the water stations and provide spirited cheers for the athletes.  Your assistance is greatly appreciated, because without you there would be no race.  For your service, you could receive a donation to your favorite charity.

Join the most spirited of the CGI races, Unite Rutgers.  You’ll be surrounded by the great mix of excited people composed of sororities, fraternities, local bands, friends and family.  Most importantly, you’ll have a great time while pushing yourself to be your best.

One way to quickly build up strength in your legs is to do “wall sits.” Start by finding an open wall with enough space for your body to fit against it. Position yourself one and a half feet from the wall. Slowly bend at the knees until your back is resting against the wall. After that, bend your knees some more. Stop once your thighs are at a 180 degree angle to the ground. Hold this position until you cannot stand it anymore.
